Did You Know?

When Columbus landed in San Salvador, Hispaniola and Cuba in 1492, he met with Natives (mainly Arawaks). In 1502 there were 250, 000 Arawaks in the Hispaniola area, however 50 years later the population numbered 500. War with Europeans, slavery and diseases account for the demise of the Arawak population but many historians believe that small pox brought by Europeans, wiped out half the population.
